Alcatraz East Honors Natalee Holloway With Marble Etching

Alcatraz East presents a special tribute to the missing young woman, Natalee Holloway on the anniversary of her disappearance. The teen from Alabama was on a trip to Aruba with 100 of her classmates to celebrate their high school graduation when she disappeared. This tragedy rocked the nation and continues to raise awareness about missing persons.

“Natalee Holloway is a name that millions of people are familiar with, because we all felt the fear and pain of her disappearance,” states Janine Vaccarello, chief operating officer for Alcatraz East, “By paying tribute to her we keep her memory alive and help to continue awareness about the importance of missing persons crimes and traveling safe. Natalee is a face that represents many others who are missing as well.”

Alcatraz East honored Natalee by adding a marble etching of her that was part of a larger memorial originally created and erected by a local man when she first disappeared. The image will become part of the Unsolved Cases section of the museum, which features information about her, as well other cold cases like JonBenét Ramsey, whose case is still receiving national media attention, and Amber Hageman, whose case spawned Amber Alerts.  The section also highlights the Natalee Holloway Resource Center that was founded by Beth Holloway in May 2010. The center focuses on educating the public on traveling safe, as well as guiding loved ones on steps to take if a person does go missing.

The U.S. Department of State cautions travelers, warning that U.S. citizens are strongly encouraged to maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness when traveling.
“There is nothing we can do to be 100% free from risks when we travel anywhere in the country or abroad,” states Vaccarello, “But there are a lot of little things we can do to try and reduce risks and help keep ourselves safe. We hope that Natalee Holloway’s anniversary helps shed light once again on this tragic story that plays out for thousands of families each year.”

Rescuing And Releasing Turtle’s In Marathon, Florida

Each year, the Turtle Hospital in Marathon, Florida receives numerous sick or injured sea turtles. Often, many of these injuries are caused by the turtle being hit by boats. They also have a habit of ingesting fishing lines, hooks, and even plastic bags too. Since the turtle’s don’t seem to know the difference in what they’re eating it’s up to us to help them out.

There are four species of sea turtles treated at the Turtle Hospital, which the Loggerhead, Green, Hawksbill, and Kemp’s Ridley’s. Each species is vulnerable to eating things they shouldn’t, and we can help by dispose of our waster in the proper places, rather than the ocean. Every little bit we do to protect our environment helps preserve it for future generations. This is what makes the work at the Turtle Hospital so important; without their efforts, and other organizations like them, many of nature’s creatures would perish.

When we visited the Turtle Hospital it was the tiny, adorable hatchlings that caught our eye. Once these little one’s are old enough they will be released back into the wild. While the goal of the hospital is to return sea turtles to the ocean, there are times when a sea turtles injuries are so severe they must remain at the hospital. And, those sea turtles who do find a home at the Turtle Hospital then become mascots that help educate children and adults alike about the dangers they face in the ocean.

Great News! – We’re happy to report that one of the Turtle Hospital patient’s, Skipper has recovered, and was recently released!

Rover Professionals Care For Your Pets Like Their Own

Planning our vacation includes find the best place to stay, picking out a few sights to see, and mapping our route. Along with making arrangements for someone to keep an eye on the house, we also want a professional who is caring to watch over our pets, one choice is Rover.
Rover lets you board your dog in a loving home while we’re away. With the help of their Concierge, they quickly find the best host in your neighborhood, which makes Rover perfect for last minute bookings. If your dog requires special care such as medications, they can also match your dog with the perfect host.

Rover suggest 5 items to pack when you home-board your dog:

1. Make A List Of Instructions: Take the time to write a short list of any special instructions you may have for your pet host regarding feeding times, portions for food, the phone number of your local vet, and where you can be reached in case of emergencies. And as always make sure Fido’s collar fits him properly and that all tags are up-to-date with your cell phone number and address.

2. Pack Your Dog’s Usual Food: Our dogs, and cats for that matter, get can food in the morning. We know from experience that they can get an upset stomach if we change their brand of dog food, so be sure to pack plenty of your dog’s usual food for their stay. For dry food, a Tupperware container works best and you can leave wet food in the can. Just make sure you have packed enough for your entire stay, and perhaps a little bit extra just in case!
3. List any medications or supplements that they may need. New environments may trigger existing allergies, so even if your pet doesn’t need their medication all the time, it’s better to have it on hand to be safe.
4. Pack Two Leashes: It’s always a good idea to pack more than one leash just in case your host loses one. You can pack a short leash and one that has an extendable line for areas where your dog might want to get some exercise.
5. Send Some Of Your Pet’s Favorite Toys: You definitely want to take the time to pack your dog’s bed and favorite toys so that they have some comforts from home. Be kind to your host, and leave the squeaky toys at home if you can so your dog doesn’t drive his weekend host crazy! An old t-shirt that smells like you can also make for a great cuddle toy for your dog while you are apart!
Rover offers peace of mind when traveling because because you know someone who cares is watching your pets.
Pets are like caring for children; you know when they’re unhappy. Rover’s professionals take the time to listen to any of your concerns, and can respond to an emergency while your gone. Rover is an affordable way to ensure your pets are cared for while away enjoying a memorable vacation or holiday weekend getaway.

A Check List On Traveling Abroad For Students

Are you a student who also wants to see more of the world? Many students decide to travel and study at the same time. However, this is a delicate balancing act for any student and you need to ask yourself some serious questions before you pack your bags and go on your adventure. Below are some of the most important questions you should answer before you set off on your travels.
Questions Every Student Should Answer Before Traveling Abroad

1. Will I Have Access to the Internet and Other Important Services?

Before you leave home, make sure you research the places you will be visiting. The last thing you want happening when you reach your destination is to find out that there is a poor Wi-Fi service and you can’t access your coursework or other important study-related information stored online.
For instance, if you are in the process of completing a DNP entry for nurse practitioners online course, you need to have a reliable internet connection, so that you can study more effectively. The places you will be staying in while you travel also need to have facilities that are appropriate for studying in.
2. What Important Dates and Events Should I Be Aware Of?

While you’re away from home, it can be difficult to stay focused and remember certain important study related dates and events. For instance, there may be course work or certain exam deadlines you need to meet. In some cases, you may need to be at home to submit this coursework or do these exams, so it’s vital to look ahead in this way and know how long you can travel for or what actions you need to take.
3. How Much Time Will I Dedicate to Studying?

Staying disciplined and organized can be extremely difficult when you’re a student, especially if you’re living the beach lifestyle or you’re going from one amazing city to another. You need to plan your study activities carefully, so that you study more effectively and more consistently while you’re away from home.
4. What Equipment and Items Do I Need to Bring with Me?

Today’s students are lucky because they can enroll in online courses like the wide range of online doctoral nursing programs that are available from various colleges and universities. Studying online means you don’t need as many course materials because many of these items are stored in digital format and can be accessed over the internet.
However, you need to make sure you bring all of the materials and items you require, such as a device to access your course, usernames and passwords of important accounts, adaptors for local power supplies, and any other items you normally use when you study.
While you’re traveling and studying at the same time, you want to be able to enjoy yourself and be productive. This is not an impossible task, but you do need to make the proper preparations. Answering each of the questions above will allow you to carry out this preparation in a much more effective way.
Another tip for preparing for your trip is to check out the local or government Convention and Visitor’s Bureau’s as well as the Embassy for your destination – each can provide helpful information and area resources.
Happy Travels!

INDYCAR Grand Prix Takes Over IMS and Will Power Takes Checkered Flag!

It was a beautiful weekend in Indiana. Ideal for race fans heading to IMS for the Grand Prix, which offered an exciting weekend of events to enjoy. 2015 winner of the INDYCAR Grand Prix, Will Power got off to a great start this weekend by leading the practice session at 126.670 mph. Simon Pagenaud was fourth at 126.408 mph while Spencer Pigot 126.404 mph, which was pretty good for his sophomore run.
One of the fun events for families over the INDYCAR Grand Prix weekend was the special screening in Pagoda Plaza of the fun family film, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul” is the fourth movie based upon the wildly popular children’s book series by author Jeff Kinney. You could feel the excitement building towards to 101st Indianapolis 500 Presented by PennGrade Motor Oil. Families and race fan’s were taking advantage of the free admission to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum as well. This has always been a favorite spot to visit for our family and friends. The museum holds a amazing collection of vintage race cars, and the history of the track and races held there come to life through memorabilia and artifacts.
As fan’s know, racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway can be a challenge. The weather plays an important part as well as track temperatures, and then there are the car’s themselves. The proper tires can make the difference between a win or placing fifth as Helio Castroneves found out. While Will Power’s Verizon Team went with softer-compound Firestone tires on Lap 64, Helio’s crew used firmer Firestone blacks on Lap 65. It made all the difference for Will Power, who took the win with Scott Dixon, a four-time series champion hot on his heels to take second.

Congratulations to Will Power for taking the checkered flag at the INDYCAR Grand Prix!

Kid-Friendly Hike Near Las Vegas

Las Vegas is well known for extraordinary entertainment and gaming. Today, our friend, Deborah Wall, a Columnist for The View Newspapers takes us beyond the glimmering lights to discover the breathtaking natural beauty just a short distance away. And, her suggestions are perfect for families, who want to explore unspoiled wilderness without traveling great distances.

Badwater, Death Valley National Park, CA

One of the most popular places in the park, this salt flat will have you walking on the lowest terrain in North America, 282 feet below sea level. It is easy walking on a flat surface, and in the cooler months can even be walked barefoot. A special treat: Imagine walking on snow, if the sun could warm that snow. Travel as far as you feel comfortable or until the terrain gets too bumpy to walk easily. The salt flat offers spectacular views of the 11,048 foot Telescope Peak to the west; this is one of the few places you can see such a disparity in elevation. Best done November-March.

Black Canyon National Water Trail, Lake Mead National Recreations Area – NV and AZ

This is usually done as a full-day kayaking or canoe excursion, either guided or self-guided, embarking from the Nevada side of the Colorado River, just below Hoover Dam, and traveling almost 12 miles downstream to Willow Beach, Arizona. Parents will have to do most of the paddling, but there is a good downstream current with no white water. Foot trails beloved by children lead up the side canyons, some of them to hot springs, waterfalls, and sauna caves.

There are several small beaches you will likely have to yourself, to stop and relax, have lunch, and of course swim in the chilly, yet refreshing, clear water. Bighorn sheep and bald eagles share the habitat with plenty of waterfowl. For this trip, even if you have your own watercraft, you will need to sign up with an authorized outfitter through the National Park Service, for transportation through the dam’s security zone down to the launching area. Sundays and Mondays offer the most enchanting solitude and silence, as on those days no motorized boats are allowed north of Willow Beach.

China Ranch Date Farm, Tecopa, CA

This date farm is a rare and lush oasis in the middle of the desert near Death Valley National Park. Hike the trails through the date trees or follow the outer trails that leave from there. One good starter trail is the 200-foot Creek Trail, which takes you through a canopy of riparian foliage along a flowing creek—super for small children. Another good one is the Badlands Trail, about one and one-half mile roundtrip. Wrap your visit up by visiting the store, where you can sample the various kinds of dates and perhaps buy some of those you like the most. Nobody seems to leave (nor should they) without buying one of the famous date milkshakes, handmade on the spot.

Kelso Sand Dunes, Mojave National Preserve, CA

No official trail here, just a great place for all ages to climb as much as 700 feet to the dunes’ peak. Look for animal tracks in the sand, and perhaps get sandy by rolling back down. These are “booming” or “singing” dunes, which means they make a peculiar noise when the moisture is just right. Only a few dunes in the world do this. Some think the sound resembles a distant airplane motor, while others compare it to a musical note. All kids—and adults, too—love it. Our family tradition is to always fly kites here.

Riverside Walk, Zion National Park, UT

This paved and nearly level trail travels along the North Fork of the Virgin River, through a healthy riparian habitat of cottonwood, box elder, and velvet ash, surrounded by Zion’s signature red and orange sandstone walls. Wildlife commonly seen includes deer, wild turkeys and rock squirrels. Highlights include short unpaved spur trails, allowing access to the river where your party can play in the water, picnic, or just relax. After one mile going upstream, the trail ends at the Gateway to the Narrows, the literal jumping-off point where adventuresome hikers drop into the waterway and head upstream using the river as the trail, into the world-famous and spectacular Narrows of the Virgin River. Good year-round, except note that the trail can ice up in winter.

An Extra Tip For Traveling With Children

When hiking with children, always carry extra water, jackets and snacks.  Keep the distances short and brush up on your geologic and animal information so you can comment on what they see as they walk along.  Family hikes can foster self-reliance and an appreciation for the natural wonders found just beyond the city lights.
