Frost Art Museum Presents Art After Stonewall 1969 – 1989 Exhibition

The Frost Art Museum at FIU Presents the major national exhibition “Art After Stonewall 1969 – 1989.” The show will headline Art Basel Miami starting in Mid September into the new year. The exhibition is the first time all of these amazing 200+ works of art will be shown together under one roof.

It’s going to be a exciting exhibit featuring the works by trailblazing artists who cleared a path through uncharted cultural terrain, from 1969-1989, including: David Hockney, Marlon T. Riggs, Andy Warhol, Alice Neel, Judy Chicago, Diane Arbus, Luis Cruz Azaceta, David Wojnarowicz, and other artists.

This will be an opportunity to view the extensive collection of works that include photographs, paintings, sculpture, film clips, video, music, and performance pieces, plus historical documents and images taken from magazines, newspapers and television.

The groundbreaking exhibition is the first national museum show of its kind to survey the impact of the LGBTQ civil rights movement on visual culture. Many will recall the events of the pivotal two decades after the Stonewall Riots when the first Pride marches took flight. This exhibition will examine the bold visual history of twenty years in American queer life.

Come discover how the Pride movement changed views and engaged the world. The forward March toward understanding and personal awareness rises to the surface as artists express their views in a variety of mediums.
