Check Out The Top Tailgating Destinations

Football fans anticipate the season, and many look forward to participating in the ultimate football experience; the tailgate party. Our friend’s at Cheapflights.com, the online leader in publishing travel deals, are sharing some of the Top NFL Pre-Game Destinations for Tailgaters. Stadium’s and Arena’s may change names, yet fans will remain dedicated to their favorite teams each season!

Cincinnati, OH, Paul Brown Stadium: Team Spirit rules the parking lots of Paul Brown Stadium as orange and black cover everything from old RVs to painted bare bellies. Cincinnati Bengals fans love to chow down their beloved Cincinnati chili made up of cheese, spaghetti and the occasional addition of oyster crackers.

Cleveland, OH, FirstEnergy Stadium: In Cleveland, fans love to pull out all the stops and secretly compete for the legendary status as tailgater at Cleveland’s Dawg Pound. Cleveland Browns fans get the party started at 7am, and, within no time, the smell of grilled brats fills the air and beer cans get passed around. A Brown’s tailgating classic is Beer-can chicken. Yes, they literally stuff a chicken with a full can of beer.

Kansas City, MO, Arrowhead Stadium: Kansas City Chiefs’ fans light up the smokers a day early and camp out overnight to ensure they are raring to go Sunday morning. It’s rare for many NFL stadiums to reach the sort of status of college tailgating, but Arrowhead attendees do it weekly. Part of their secret to success is a mastery of a tailgating menu, and Chief’s fans have mastered their barbecue.

Denver, Colorado, Broncos Stadium: The Mile High City is home to some of the nation’s wildest fans. The Denver Broncos tailgating experience at the Broncos Stadium is filled with local microbrews and tasty Mexican fare. Don’t forget to chant “IN-COM-PLETE” when the visiting quarterback incompletes a pass. Also, be sure to check out the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame, located right at Gate 1, dedicated to the state’s most prized athletes. Plus, around the stadium are plenty of top-rated restaurants to hit up after the tailgating festivities.

Foxborough, MA, Gillette Stadium: Patriots fans take tailgating serious and are known for cooking up some great food. And, what’s on the menu? Well, you can forget plain burgers and fries; they’re cooking up stick-to-your-ribs clam chowder, fresh lobsters and juicy steaks. Fans travel from all over New England to Foxborough, situated between Boston and Providence, and partake in the tailgating experience every Sunday morning of the season. While it’s common knowledge that New England fans are boisterous no matter which sport is playing, if you’re looking for a quiet place before a Pats game, you probably won’t find it at Gillette Stadium. Search and compare cheap flights to Boston.

Know Your Zone For The Red Bull Indianapolis GP

The Red Bull Indianapolis GP is here, and if you’re heading to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway it’s best to plan your routes ahead of time for an easier, more efficient drive to the track.
The track opens at 7 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10 for the Moto3 race at 11 a.m., the Moto2 race at 12:20 p.m., the Red Bull Indianapolis GP at 2 p.m. and the AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley- Davidson Series race at 3:30 p.m.
There will be free infield parking, although it is limited due to the road course setup used for the event. And, instead of using the 16th Street entrance you’ll need to enter from 30th Street and enter the Gate 10, where you’ll be directed to park in the infield near Turn 3 of the oval.
This includes all motorcycle traffic, except for fans riding motorcycles with reserved seats who purchased parking passes for the IMS Hall of Fame Museum parking lot. All motorcycle riders entering the facility through Gate 10 may park their vehicles for free on the backstretch of the IMS oval.
Additional free parking outside the oval will be in the Lot 7 – the North 40, parking lot accessible off of 30th Street. There will be no public parking access through Gate 2 on 16th Street, which will be open for credential and disabled parking only.

Getting There:

Follow these recommended routes for limited free parking via 30th Street (Gate 10).
From I-465: Use Exit 17 (38th Street) and proceed east (turn right from northbound, turn left from southbound) on 38th Street, turn south (right) on Moller Road, turn east (left) on 30th Street, the Lot entrance is on the right.
From Southbound I-65: Use Exit 119 (38th Street) and proceed to the Kessler Boulevard North Drive exit, turn south (right) on Kessler Boulevard North Drive, turn west (right) onto 30th Street, Gate 10 will be on the left.
From Northbound I-65: Use Exit 116 (29th/30th Street) and proceed straight past 29th Street, turn west (left) on 30th Street, Gate 10 is on the left.
From I-70 West of Indianapolis (Eastbound): Use Exit 69 (I-465 North/I-74 West) and follow I-465 directions seen above.
From I-70 East of Indianapolis (Westbound): Use Exit 83B (I-65 North toward Chicago), Merge onto I-65 North, use Exit 116 (29th/30th Street), proceed straight past 29th Street, turn west (left) on 30th Street, Gate 10 is on the left.
Fans leaving IMS following all races during the Red Bull Indianapolis GP weekend should be aware that whatever direction they are sent, they will never be more than 1 to 4 miles away from a main Interstate artery. Officers will direct traffic in the quickest, most efficient way and may suddenly change routes due to traffic congestion.
In an effort to increase the safety and security of race patrons, Georgetown Road will be closed between 16th Street on the south and 25th Street on the north prior to the beginning of the Red Bull Indianapolis GP at 2 p.m.  After Georgetown Road is closed, no vehicular traffic, including placarded traffic, will be allowed to access the roadway.

Those race patrons with placards who are accustomed to entering Gate 7 will have to enter through Gate 2 (W. 16th Street) or Gate 10 (30th Street).  Local residents who reside on this stretch of Georgetown Road are encouraged to make provisions for this temporary traffic restriction as vehicles will not be permitted to access Georgetown Road from McCray Street, 24th Street, and all other access points in this area.

September is National Preparedness Month – So, Be Disaster Aware. TakeAction to Prepare

September is National Preparedness Month, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, encourages everyone to make disaster preparedness a priority.

“National Preparedness Month serves as a reminder that we all need to prepare for disasters and emergencies,” said FEMA Region V acting regional administrator, Janet Odeshoo.  “Make disaster readiness manageable by taking one step at a time. You can begin by learning your specific risk, then gather supplies for an emergency kit, and finally develop a family communications plan. By taking these small, but critical, steps, over time you can be prepared for disasters.”

Severe weather and other emergencies can strike with little or no warning and can have disastrous impacts. Already this year, the Midwest has experienced several waves of destructive severe storms, including the severe flooding in parts of Minnesota.  Whether at home or on the go, everyone should learn the steps necessary to make preparedness part of their everyday life.

“As a nation we are seeing disasters increase in their size and complexity, and they are occurring with greater frequency,” said Odeshoo. “The impacts of these events are a reminder that everyone should be prepared for the hazards faced in their communities or even while traveling. Make preparedness a priority for your family today and help encourage a culture of preparedness in your community.”

Throughout the month, FEMA will offer tips to help you be disaster ready, including ways you can stay safe during a disaster and steps you can take to protect yourself and your family when traveling.
